How to install USA Map Locator 4.0 under WordPress?1. Prepare 2. Upload The following files must be uploaded: The easiest way to upload files is using an FTP access. Use any FTP client (or your browser) to access your website via FTP and upload the required files into any folder. The easiest option is to upload files to the root folder of your site. However, in some cases you might not have an FTP access to your site, or you might don't want to use it. In this case you can upload files using WordPress built-in capabilities. IMPORTANT: Due to security reasons, WordPress doesn't allow you to upload XML files directly. In order to do this, please install PJW Mime Config plugin first and include xml to the list of allowed mime types.
Here is how you can upload files via WordPress. 2.1. Login to your WordPress admin panel 2.2. Switch to the Media section:
3. Adding the map to a page Let's imagine we want to create a new page with the map on it. Click the "Add new' link at the top: Enter the title of your page and paste the following code into the HTML source of the page:
4. Now we need to adjust the code of the map to make it work on our server. Look for the following line in the code:
The locatormap here is the name of the div where the map will be placed into. It is also referred in this line:
swfobject.embedSWF("/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/locator_map.swf", "locatormap", "500", "400", "9.0.0","", flashvars, params);
Make sure both names are the same and are unique across the page if you paste two or more maps on the same page. Also check the paths to the XML config, SWFObject JavaScript file and to SWF files are correct. Depending on the upload method you used at the step 2, the path may vary. In particular, if you uploaded the map via the FTP to the "map" folder of your website, the path could be: /map/locator_map.xml Of course, it will be different for you. If you uploaded using built-in media capabilities powered by PJW Mime Config plugin, the path usually is something like this: /wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/locator_map.xml Set the path to all files (XML, JS, SWF) as shown below:
So finally, you should receive the complete code with some content above it and after it in the editor window: Preview the page to ensure everything is all right, then save it. If the map doesn't show, check if you uploaded the files and specified paths to them in the code correctly. Congratulations! You have installed Interactive Flash Map to your WordPress website. Note: if you want to adjust the map, i.e. change colors, size, add popup balloons or change landing page URLs, please refer to the documentation included with the product. |
